Meet Dr. Thomas E. (TED) Boyce, THE Triple Threat in Safety and Leadership Consulting, Training, and Keynote Speaking: 1) Ph.D. in Psychology; 2) over 20 years of experience transforming work cultures as an on-site consultant, course leader, and keynote speaker, and 3) more than 25 years background as a professional entertainer.  He also has an extremely rare combination of training in applied psychology, experiemental psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology that will assist you in better understanding and solving any performance problem and improve any culture change effort.

General Background

Dr. Boyce received his doctorate in applied experimental psychology from the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited graduate program at Virginia Tech under the direction of E. Scott Geller. He served with distinction as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Nevada-Reno from 1999-2004, where he founded the Center for Behavioral Safety Research.

Dr. Boyce is currently President and Senior Consultant with the Center for Behavioral Safety, LLC. He remains a Faculty Associate in the Department of Psychology and College of Business Administration at the University of Nevada where he most recently taught a popular course on the Psychology of Motivation for Business and Industry.  Dr. Boyce has been a performing musician since the age of 15 and has published his original music on an independent music label.

As a consultant to a variety of industries, Dr. Boyce has more than 20 years of experience designing and implementing customized Behavior-Based Safety processes, conducting safety culture assessments, and developing managers and supervisors through various workshops, on-site consulting, and executive coaching. He is also in demand as an inspirational keynote speaker at safety celebrations, corporate and public conferences, and refresher trainings.

Dr. Boyce has managed both single-site and multi-site projects in Behavior-Based Safety, Safety Culture Assessments, and Evidence-Based Leadership development. Among those projects are customized processes for Apollo Gold, City of Reno, Coeur Precious Metals, Day & Zimmermann, Freeport McMoran (Phelps Dodge), Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction, Intrepid Potash, Newmont Mining Corporation, Stillwater Mining, and the United States Army CMA. He has also consulted on behavior-based safety or leadership with Martin Marietta, NASA, Ralston Purina, Teichert Construction, Unilever-Best Foods, the University of California, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Nevada DMV, among others. As a result, his experience involves working in both union and non-union environments and with private and government entities.

An Award-Winning Expert in Injury Prevention

Dr. Boyce is an award-winning lecturer, sought-after keynote speaker and course leader, and an acknowledged expert in the application of behavioral science to prevent injuries. He has logged thousands of hours doing on-site training for managers, supervisors, and front-line employees. He has also given invited speeches on the topic of behavior-based safety and safety leadership to 10′s of thousands of people, including for: the American Society of Safety Engineers, Association of General Contractors, International Society of Mining Safety Professionals, Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA), National Safety Council, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the New Mexico Mine Health and Safety Conference and countless others. Additionally, he has published dozens of articles and several book chapters on injury prevention and leadership.

A Member of the Behavioral Science Community

As a member of the behavioral science community, Dr. Boyce is Past President of the Behavioral Safety Network (2001-2003), during which he also served as Editor of the Behavioral Safety section of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies website. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management.

Dr. Boyce is a full-member of the American Psychological Association, American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), international Association for Behavior Analysis, and Sigma Xi, the scientific research honor society. In concert with the principles of applied behavioral science, Dr. Boyce’s endeavors emphasize continuous improvement, but are outcome oriented.
